Works of great inspiration, and in particular genuine works of art, have a life of their own, and their own power of making themselves felt. They have the divine gift of shedding their light and their beneficent influence down the passage of the years and through the successive line of those people whose privilege it is to love and enjoy the creations of art. This influence cultivates and refines the intellectual world, it enters the international arena, and promotes the values of civilisation, and, in general, orientates the individual towards the path of progress, not only as an isolated being, but also as a member of a social whole. It is in this light that the Commercial Bank of Greece presents the work of the folk artist, Theophilos Hadzimichael. Its object is to afford an opportunity to a wide circle of art-lovers, in Greece and abroad, to form a more comprehensive idea of genuinely Greek works of art, and to appreciate and enjoy them.
