The author visited the island of Crete in 1989 and during his visit to Spinaloga, he was inspired to write this book, which was completed in just three weeks. "The inspiration for the poem came from the ability to feel the tragic sufferings, the poem makes me want to cry because inwardly that is how I feel. If having read my poem you feel the same, then you have given a tear not for the reading but for all those people who suffered on the Island."
